Johnson City to Austin to Houston to Morgan City

The Museum of Modern Art in Austin was not worth the five bucks ( or only four for members of the military!!!). There was an exhibition about miniature chairs and when I wanted to take a picture of the only model that I thought was inspiring a woman appeared out of the nowhere and told me not to take pictures. Don’t go there.

Instead go there. The Art House. Modern, clever, provocative, complex, deep. No entrance, no restriction. I enjoyed it a lot!

Six hours later in Houston I went to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen that has been recommended to me and I ordered the Hawaiian Yellowfin Tuna. I died right there, so good.

The next day I took a break from diving and had a wonderful day : ) .

The scenic drive around Calcasieu Lake and in parts along the Gulf was full of bird spottings, especially egrets, standing like little, unmovable one legged sculptures in every meadow, lake and river along the highway. Very peaceful. The entire area was still in process of building up and I was wondering about the drive people inherit to move to disastrous places like this where you almost can be certain that your entire household will be washed away at one point or another in the future..again. Where I grew up they used to build houses into the sea, miles away from the land. During low tides the inhabitants would cross the sea to get and sell goods on the markets and during storms they would all wait inside the house that sits on a small hill called Hallig.

The houses on stilts caught my attention. This striving for adjustment to  forces of nature, the desire to improve, face to face to an almost certain downfall, is such a common theme in human life. Why don’t they just leave?

When I arrived in Morgan City I first had a pour opinion about this town that I experienced as somewhat creepy. Susie’s Seafood Restaurant is worth visiting though. I finally got my exotic food experience. Crabs. It is one of those restaurant in which only locals hang out. You get it in the moment the waitress gives you “the look” and reveals you as a stranger. Before she even ask me what I wanted she ask me if I was new. She sat down with me on the table that was covered with paper due to the mess that was expeced and taught me how to get the good stuff out of the crustacean. Red piles of shells and crab pieces covered the tables next to me and it seemed everybody had orderd the same.It was messy messy messy and very tasty.

I think they would say “because it is beautiful”, which is true I think… it is indeed beautiful. I doubt there is any one single reason why.
